A LETTER FROM OUR INCOMING PRESIDENT

My name is Scott Schaal and as the incoming president of the Fayetteville-Manlius Outdoors Club, it is my responsibility to pay tribute to Mathew Cambareri for his past two years of service as president of this great club. Mathew’s dedication to the club has been unwavering in his efforts for technology for advancement, creating an environment for comfort & education and most certainly for his constant drive for safety, reminding us all of the four rules of firearm safety. His dedication to the club went beyond the property of the club, reaching out to other organizations and politicians to help continue the freedoms provided to us by the 2nd amendment but also to unite us with the community and bring awareness that the FMOC is a place where all people can come and enjoy the magnificence of the outdoors.

I believe I can speak for the board of directors as well as our entire membership, when I say thank you Mathew for all that you have done for the club in these past two years. Your efforts have certainly moved us forward and made us that much better of a sportsman club. I know you have left some very large shoes for me to fill and I will do everything I can to continue and grow upon all of your hard work. I personally want to say thank you for all that you have provided me, in moving into this role and wish you & your family the greatest success in your new endeavors. Thank you, Mathew.

Let me share a bit of background on myself. My wife Erin and I reside here in Manlius and are blessed with two wonderful adult daughters, one amazing granddaughter and Tres’, our wonder dog. I have been a club member for over 15 years now and have been sitting on the board of the club for nearly three years. I built a local landscape construction firm, for over 40 years, that provided me the foundations for success of running a multimillion dollar organization. Three years ago, I was very fortunate to have another company acquire my firm and provide me the opportunity to retire and spend more time with my family and enjoying my hobbies of cycling, skiing and certainly firearm shooting. Over the course of my career, I have sat on several boards, committees and held officer positions for those organizations, which included the New York State Nursery & Landscape Association.

Over the next year, I aim to collaborate closely with the club's officers and board to realize the following objectives:

  • Safety: continue to promote the four rules of firearm safety and the range rules of the club
  • Membership: Grow our membership by 10% over the course of 1 year
  • Club activities: Establish new club activities that will encourage membership & community participation
  • Sportsman Day: updating & modernization of our spring event to increase participation amongst the members and the community
  • Clubhouse: Start activities that utilize the clubhouse for the benefit of the membership, community and fundraising for the club.

These are the basis of my agenda for 2025 and the details of these objectives will be detailed out in future board & general meetings, along with sharing information via club newsletters. I encourage our membership to come and participate in the meetings and share your thoughts to assist in moving the club forward.

I am excited to get started as the president of the Fayetteville-Manlius Outdoors Club and encourage all members to not only enjoy the club and all it has to offer but also step up and get involved in the club. Volunteer, head up a committee, be present for the meetings, will help our club become a place of stability, excitement and a pillar of community strength for firearm safety, education and outdoor enjoyment for all enthusiasts for all that our club has to offer.

Best regards,

Scott E. Schaal

FMOC President

UPCOMING CLASSES FROM

ROCHESTER PERSONAL DEFENSE

The club will be entering into a strategic partnership with Rochester Personal Defense / LionsPride

(https://safeinrochester.com/). We plan on having them host their NYS Concealed Carry 18-Hour Mandatory Course at our club in the future. We believe this will benefit members looking for training in addition to getting the word out about our club to non-members attending their classes. Please check our website, emails, and Google calendar for the times and dates of these courses.

BOARD OF DIRECTORS MEETINGS

Board of Directors meeting every FIRST Wednesday of the month starting at 7PM (unless otherwise specified). The meeting is open to the public. However, if club members wish to be on the agenda, one must submit a request via email to be added to the agenda no later than the Friday before the meeting. There will be a public comment period for general club members during each meeting, but we ask that club members hold any comments during the meeting for the public comment period.

GENERAL MEMBERSHIP MEETINGS

General membership and new member orientation meetings are the LAST Wednesday of the month starting at 7PM (unless otherwise specified). In addition to initiating new members, it is open to existing members who want to come who need help cleaning or troubleshooting equipment.

RANGE SAFETY IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY!

Our club does not have a 24/7 range officer like a commercial rental range. Therefore, each member functions as his/her own range safety officer and as safety officer to other members present at the range.

If you see something unsafe (see: four rules of firearm safety), SAY SOMETHING. If you do, the best thing to do is to email us at fmrodandgunclub@gmail.com if you see someone/something unsafe. We have created a system for remediation of range rule violations. If members are noted to be using suboptimal safety techniques, they may be asked to meet (privately) with the board to discuss remediation, which may include taking a safety class or possible revocation of membership.

THE FOUR RULES OF FIREARM SAFETY

  1. Treat all guns as if they are loaded.
  2. Never point the muzzle of a gun at anything you do not intend to kill or destroy.
  3. Keep your finger off the trigger until your sights are on target.
  4. Know your target and what is beyond it.

THE SECOND AMENDMENT

A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.

BOARD OF DIRECTORS

Scott S., president - Lee W., vice president

Andrew S., secretary - Mike P., treasurer

Brian G., Chairman of the Board

Paul S., Scott S., Dan D., Thomas M., Larry C.,

Ben G., at-large members

Dear Future Member,

Thank you for your interest in joining Fayetteville Manlius Outdoors Club, also known as Fayetteville Manlius Rod and Gun Club! Please see the following documents. Please review and sign the club rules, complete the membership application and the attached waiver form, and bring all completed forms to the next new member orientation meeting on the LAST Wednesday of the month at 7PM at the club house.

Our club has a lot to offer to our members! Our ranges are open every day from 9AM until 30 minutes before sunset or 8PM, whichever comes first. We have a 25 yard shooting range for rimfire and pistol caliber firearms, a 100 yard rifle range, a manually operated clay thrower for shotgun target practice, and several individual backstops (butts) to practice archery. We also have a 30+ acre Nature Trail for hiking, bird watching, and the enjoyment of all things outdoors. We regularly hold events at our clubhouse as well.

New member dues include a $25 new member fee, a $110 per calendar year membership fee (good through December 31st, 2025) for a total of $135, payable by cash or check only. Please bring your payment along with the completed application including a signed copy of the acknowledged range rules and waiver form to the next monthly new member meeting.

The club is located at 4545 Whetstone Road, Manlius, NY. You will turn onto the club’s road off of Whetstone, go down a straight road for about a quarter mile, the road will gradually bend left (don’t go up the road that says ‘wrong way’, it’s a one way road!) and you will pass the shooting ranges on your right. It will again bend left and you will come to a fork in the road. Bear right at the fork to park in the upper parking lot. Go down the steps and the clubhouse will be directly ahead of you. Of the two buildings you see, it will be the one on the left from the parking lot. Please come a little early to allow for introductions and questions.

Thank you, and we look forward to meeting you! If you have any questions, please email FMRodAndGunClub@Gmail.com.

Sincerely,

The Board of Directors

Range Rules

  1. Treat all guns as if they are loaded. ___
  2. Never point a gun at anything you aren't willing to kill or destroy. ___
  3. Keep your finger off the trigger until your sights are on the target. ___
  4. Be certain of your target and what is around and behind it.____
  5. The Fayetteville-Manlius Rod & Gun Club is for the use of its members and guests ONLY, unless otherwise specified at special events.___
  6. Alcoholic beverages or mind altering substances are NOT permitted on range._______
  7. Members are allowed to bring a guest to use the facility. Members are responsible for their guests. The guest will remain with the host member during their visit. Members are responsible for the supervision and conduct of their guests at all times. ___
  8. Members are to post their membership cards at the designated locations when using the firing ranges. ___
  9. For your safety, hearing and eye protection should be worn while shooting or near the range, this means hearing protection should be in place after exiting your vehicle before reaching the range if the range is occupied._______
  10. No persons are to go beyond the firing line (down range) until ALL shooters have agreed and all firearms have been placed on the bench with actions open, placed in the gun rack, safely stored in cases or holstered. When members are down range, remaining members at the firing line or at the clay thrower WILL NOT handle any firearms or ammunition until everyone is back on the line and the line is safe to go hot. ___
  11. Shooting will be confined to the designated shooting ranges only, specifically at the clay thrower, the 100 yard range, and the 25 yard range. ___
  12. Shooters will stay in control of their firearms at all times and are responsible for every round that leaves the barrel. No uncontrolled/rapid fire. ___
  13. Shooters should not bring to the range any movable targets from home, including but not limited to: rolling or bouncing ground targets, glass or metal containers, steel targets, explosive and fragmentation targets. The exceptions to this rule are spinner targets placed at the base of each berm, or paper/cardboard targets/clay pigeons on the plywood target backers or on the berm directly.  ___
  14. The 25 yard range, also known as the pistol range, is generally for the use of pistols. It may also be used by those with rimfire or pistol-caliber rifles, but not shotguns nor rifle-caliber rifles (i.e. no .223/5.56, no 7.62mm, etc.). ___
  15. Shooters may stand closer to the berms for the purpose of practice, training, or drills as long as it is not disruptive to other shooters wishing to shoot from the bench at either the 100 yard or 25 yard range. Those who are down range must be conscientious of those who are up range (at the bench) and should keep the muzzles of their firearms pointed in a safe direction as they walk to and from the bench, i.e. directly down at the ground, slung across the back, or holstered. ___
  16. We specifically wish for shotgun users NOT to shoot at the plywood target holders as it is rather destructive. We recommend you use the club provided movable 2x4” target holders and affix your cardboard as a backer, and use these for shotgun.  ___
  17. Do not fire at the wooden upright (vertical) posts that retain the plywood target backers. As well, do not place targets i.e. clay pigeons on the tops of the posts.___
  18. Every member, upon viewing a violation of the range safety rules or an occurrence of "unsafe firearm handling", should bring such violations to the attention of the board of directors via an email to fmrodandgunclub@gmail.com. ________
  19. Carrying of loaded firearms is welcomed on club grounds. All loaded firearms carried on one’s person shall remain holstered or slung at all times, unless at the firing line or in case of an emergency. ___
  20. Please dispose of unfired faulty ammunition in the disposal boxed at reach range.____
  21. All equipment shall be in compliance with federal and state regulations. ___
